You can try deleting all your CUR files by:

L:\SC>DELETE CUR*.SYS

Be careful, you can ruin your system if you have a typo. Probably better to restore a BACK2.ZIP or BACK3.ZIP, such as

L:\SC>ZIPE BACK3.ZIP

POSitouch Error 130

Abstract:
ERROR 130 BRINGING UP THE FRONT OF THE HOUSE

pull screens.sys, screens.dat and indata.dbf out of back1 or back2. You will see the first 30 order screens. You can have up to 120 order screens. Locate the order screen you want to add the item to. You may need to use the Next and Prev buttons to scroll 30 order screens at a time. Once you find the order screen you want, click on it once with your mouse.

>

3. You will see the buttons cells within the order screen. To set up a new button, use your mouse and click on a cell that is empty (one that does not have a button label - in this example, cell number 15 is empty)

>

4. Now you will see all of the button controls available for this cell. Don't let these confuse you. We only need to set a few of these for a basic menu item and I will cover those in the steps that follow. The first thing you must do is to select a menu item from your database. Don't just start adding things to this control until you have an inventory item selected. To select an inventory item, you need to use the LookUp button on the top part of the form. Click on the LookUp button and you will go to the Items and Recipes section of POSitouch.

Error 125 SPCWIN

Abstract:
You can't start order entry and the SPCWIN screen on the POSdriver shows an Error 125.

You have corruption in one or more of the following files: SCREENS.SYS, SCREENS.DAT and GRID.SYS

You need to restore these files from a previous backup or BACK.ZIP file. Use the prev and next buttons to locate your order screen.

When you locate the order screen, use your mouse and click on it. You will be looking at the buttons in the order screen.

Locate a blank cell where you want the menu item to go and click on the blank cell.

You are now looking at the controls for this cell. You need to setup the item description and price. That has to be done in Menu Items and Recipes. You can access Menu Items and Recipes by clicking on the LookUp button on the top part of this screen.

Now you're in Menu Items and Recipes. Use the Add Button to begin adding the new item. POSitouch will allow you to pick your own number, or provide a number for you. If you have a specific numbering scheme for your menu items, you may want to use that. If not, let POSitoch pick your number. After you pick the number, we can begin adding the description, price etc.

For the Description, enter a meaningful name, keeping in mind this is what will appear on the guest check and in your reports.

Enter the three prices for the item. We show three prices because some sites use these other price fields for happy hour, entertainment etc. If you're unsure, enter all three prices the same.

Pick your major and minor categories from the drop down lists.

If you want to allow, or disallow any discounts, uncheck to disallow, check to allow. Use the discount button to see a number list that corresponds to the check boxes.

Most sites use tax 1 as food tax, and tax 2 as non food (Washington State). To fix, first, restore a previous USER.SYS from a backup file. Here's the command.

1. Open a command prompt in Windows (go to the Windows start button, then Run and type in CMD (for Windows 2000 or XP) or on Windows 95/98, type in COMMAND.

2. It should look something look like this:

      C:\My Documents>

3. Now change drives to the POSDRIVER and follow the following commands (in bold):

C:\My Documents>L:

L:\>CD\SC

L:\SC>ZIPE BACK2.ZIP USER.SYS

Overwrite the existing file. Now you should be able to start SPCWIN on the POSDRIVER.

About Backups. Each night, the POSdriver makes a backup copy of your configuration. They are named sequentially like this: BACK1.ZIP, BACK2.ZIP, BACK3.ZIP, all the way to BACK20.ZIP. The lowest number is the most recent (BACK1.ZIP). You can check when the files were created by looking at their creation date. As in:

L:\sc>DIR BACK*.ZIP

This will produce a list of backup files showing their name, size and creation date.

House Account Settings

Abstract:
If you are using the club module here are a few tips:

The club account uses ACCOUNT.MDB for storing the house charge customer information. You may have this file on the POSdriver and/or on the back office computer. It's important that you setup the AMS32.INI files correctly on both the POSdriver and the back office computer.

If you have the ACCOUNT.MDB on the POSdriver, then your AMS32.INI (located in the L:\SC folder) would have the following entries for the POSdriver:

[Paths]
Account=\SC\ACCOUNT.MDB
CLUB.SYS=\SC\CLUB.SYS

On the back office, with your ACCOUNT.MDB on the POSdriver (the L drive), your AMS32.INI (located in the SC folder) would have the following entries:

[Paths]
Account=L:\SC\ACCOUNT.MDB
CLUB.SYS=L:\SC\CLUB.SYS

You may need to rebuild your ACCOUNT.MDB if for some reason you are having problems. The PNITEARC.BAT batch file (located on L:\SC) is the batch file that refreshes the ACCOUNT.MDB file. You can run this from the command line from the back office by typing the following from the command line:

L:\SC>PNITEARC

After you run this, do an immediate system change.

If you are having problems accessing the club maintenance from within the POSitouch menu system, you can also run it directly from the POSdriver by double clicking on the L drive, then the SC folder, then AMSEDIT.EXE

Error 144 when bringing up SPCWIN

Abstract:
Error 144 on SPCWIN screen

This is a Club account error you can do the following:

Delete all the acct files on the POSdriver except ACCT.DBF. If you can't get any red lights to stop, the printer is most likely damaged. You will need to swap with your spare.

Turn the printer off, hold down the feed button and turn the printer on. It should print a test pattern. Turn the printer off, then back on. Try a test item to see if it prints.

Check the cables going in to the wall and on the printer. They should be snug. Also note any corrosion on the connection points (especially in the wall connection). If the cable is damaged, it may need to be replaced.

If the above does not correct or determine the problem, then proceed with the following:

Prep printers are connected to a terminal. In order to fully refresh them when all other attempts have failed you need to have both the terminal and the prep printer off at the same time. To do this, first locate which terminal is driving the prep printer. In POSitouch Back Office you need to do the following:

POSitouch > Setup > Hardware > Prep Printers > Locations and Types

Locate the name of the printer in this list and note the Device Location number (not the Device number, shown below on line 2), which is also the terminal number. Here's an example:

Erase TAEMP2.DBF from the POSdriver

Example:

Use the windows start button and go to Run.

From the run command window type in CMD (for Win 2000/XP) or COMMAND (for Win 95/98).

From the command prompt, change the current drive to the POSdriver by typing L: then use the Enter key, such as:

C:\Documents and settings\Me>L: [ENTER]

Now you're on the POSdriver's L drive. Change the the SC folder by typing:

L:\>CD SC [ENTER]

Then delete TAEMP2.DBF by typing the following:

L:\SC>Erase TAEMP2.DBF [ENTER]

Now type EXIT and use the Enter button and try starting order entry again.

ERROR 135

Abstract:
When starting order entry (SPCWIN) and the system fails to come up due to an

ERROR 135 READING DATA FILE

Try the following:

Open a command prompt and on the POSdriver in the SC folder, Rename screens.sys screens.dat & user.sys. You can use the REN function to accomplish this like this:

L:\SC>REN SCREENS.SYS SCREENS.SY1

L:\SC>REN SCREENS.DAT SCREENS.DA1

L:\SC>REN USER.SYS USER.SY1

The importance of renaming them is you have a way back should something go wrong. The next step is to extract these files from one of your backup files. POSitouch backs up each night to a set of ZIP files. To extract these files, enter the following commands:

L:\SC>ZIPE BACK3.ZIP SCREENS.SYS

L:\SC>ZIPE BACK3.ZIP SCREENS.DAT

L:\SC>ZIPE BACK3.ZIP USER.SYS

Now you should be able to bring up order entry.

ERROR 901 when starting order entry

Abstract:
If you see a 901 error when trying to start order entry (in the SPCWIN status screen), it means that POSitouch can't find the software security key. Usually this is located on the POSdriver, but it could be on the back office machine. The software security key looks like this:

The software key plugs into the parallel printer port on the back. Make sure it's snug.

Several reasons for the sofware not finding it are as follows:

Check and make sure the plug is tightly secured to the PC.

The parallel port may be blown on the PC.

The SPCWIN.INI file may have an incorrect entry if the key is not on the POSdriver. On the POSdriver and in the SC folder, the SPCWIN.INI file should have an entry similar to this in the [Spcwin] section Keyserver=ip address of the backoffice. for example if the backoffice IP address was 192.168.1.25, then the line would read KEYSERVER=192.168.1.25

<FONT face="Couri

Missing Guest Check Logo

Abstract:
If your logo stops printing on the guest check it's usually because someone turned of the printer and the printer lost the logo (the logo is held in memory). First, if you have a Mag Card or Credit Card reader on the terminal, you can usually find a pig tail with a plug that will allow you to plug in the keyboard. Other times you may have to plug in directly to the POS terminal.

Note that it is identical to the mouse port. You can plug a keyboard into a mouse port but the keyboard won't work. Make sure you are plugging into the keyboard port. Here is a close up of the port. Most of the time you can locate an Icon for the keyboard. This is what they look like. Also, if your Mag Card reader becomes disconnected, check and make sure it's plugged into the keyboard port. NOTE some terminals may have colored coded ports - magenta is the keyboard, green is the mouse.

Terminals show white screen

Abstract:
TCP/IP Connection to 192.168.1.1 (NOT ACTIVE)

I am Terminal 2

Printer Status: Ready

If you see a message like this on your terminal, it means that the POSiterm program is running, but it has a problem communicating with the POSDRIVER. Go to POSitouch > Reports > Sales & Cat Sls Trend. Look at the Sales Categories function. Verify that all of your major/minor categories appear in this section. You may want to print out all of you major/minor categories to help you verify them in this section (you can do that from POSitouch > Setup > Menu Item Categories (use the PRINT button).

From a command prompt, go to POSdriver's SC folder and look at the details of these files:

FCOSTA.SYS

FCOSTM.SYS

FCOSTN.SYS

These files above should have the same size and date. If they don't, you will need to run the FOODCOST program. That is done by typing the following on the POSdriver (which is the L:\SC): FOODCOST. After you have done that, then run the INREDO program. Your command line will look something like this:

L:\SC>FOODCOST

L:\SC>INREDO

Then compare the three files again. Here's why:

What you can't do:

If the check was $100 and the customer hands you two credit cards and says put $60 on each card (which gives the server a $20 tip). Get out the manual voucher imprinters and voucher slips.

2. Have the servers imprint the voucher with the credit card. Note - you will need to cover some basic training on this with your servers. Since they are accustomed to an automatic system, they frequently place the card upside down in the manual imprint device. This results in no imprint made of the credit card. Make sure your servers and cashiers are clear on this procedure.

3. After the guest has signed the manual voucher, staple the voucher to the printed guest check. This then becomes your document for balancing.

4. Ask your installer/POS deaer to create a NOAUTH settlement key. Have your servers and cashiers settle all manual credit cards to this settlement button. It will make it much easier in the back office to run the authorizations the next day or when the system comes back up. Otherwise, you'll have to sort through all the payments to find out which ones need settlement.

What is SPCWIN

Abstract:
What is SPCWIN

Definition: SPCWIN is a term that refers to the main POSitouch POS System software program.
